Cheese and Crackers!

Cheese and Crackers!

My soul is dry and thirsts for You, True God,
as a deer thirsts for water.
I long for the True God who lives.
When can I stand before Him and feel His comfort?
 Right now I’m overwhelmed by my sorrow and pain;
I can’t stop feasting on my tears.
People crowd around me and say,
“Where is your True God whom you claim will save?Psalm 42:1-4 (VOICE)

Interpretations hey!

Look at the heading today – cheese and crackers. At face value it could just be exactly that, two items that paired together make a yummy snack. Or we could dig into the meaning behind it and think – huh, what could it mean. In about 1920 the term was coined to be used instead of a swear word! Who’d a thunk hey!

When these three little words popped into my head today, along with this scripture from Psalms, I was stumped. Then I finished reading Psalm 42 and found the little trinket at the bottom in verse 11

Why am I so overwrought,
    Why am I so disturbed?

Why can’t I just hope in God?
    Despite all my emotions,
I will believe and praise the One

    who saves me, my God.

We are living in uncertain times. It feels like we have been like this – one thing after another since 2019. It is like, in a way, World War III. Instead of being fought with bombs and guns, it’s being fought with manipulation, misdirection and control. All the while taunting us that we are doing the wrong thing – when our Spirit knows the Truth.

I’m sure there are times for you, as there are for me when the term Cheese and Crackers doesn’t quite hit the mark. We want to make a statement, we want to vent our frustrations, we want justice to be seen. How can our little voice make a difference in this world? We can’t but God can.

Our weapon is prayer; our salve is staying in the comfort of our Saviour; our Truth is Written in HIS Book.

We are living in a time where the name of Jesus is getting momentum, but also His name is being shunned. It’s almost like we are allowed to say we believe in Jesus, but we are not allowed to speak the Truth of His Word.  The world wants us to dull his name to any other impotent deity. But our God is not impotent – He is omnipotent! There is none like Him, there never has been and there never will be. He is the Alpha and Omega.

The exciting part is, we can live in the comfort of His power and might. We don’t have to do anything but trust and obey.

He calls us to love Him and love others. 10 Commandments rolled into that. If we love Him first and we love others as we love ourselves and God, laws would not be broken, lives would not be lost, crimes would not occur, and lying, cheating, greed will cease to exist.  These are the things we can look forward to in the New Heaven and New Earth.  No more pain.

God calls us to live as if Heaven were on Earth. To live for Him and to live for others. To see His beauty around us, to share the Good News of Jesus.

Jesus is the only Way to peace. He is the only Way to true freedom.

If you have never asked Jesus to be your Lord and Saviour, here is a simple little prayer:

Jesus,

I am a sinner, I have lived my life apart from you, and to be honest, I am miserable. I am lost, broken and afraid of what tomorrow will bring.

But Your Love, Jesus, Your Love changes all that. I want to have peace, I want to live my life knowing that regardless to what the world throws at me, I am safe in Your arms. The only way I can do that is to admit that I cannot do this without You. I want to surrender my stubborn pride, my fear, my brokenness and my selfish life to You. I am Yours and You are mine.

Despite all my emotions, I will believe and praise the One
    who saves me, my God.

Amen.
